Derivation:
From two Old English words - "earm" & "strang", literally meaning someone who is strong in the arm

History:
Legend tells us that the first Armstrong was an armor-bearer to a Scottish king, whose horse was killed under him in battle. He was able to hoist the King on to his own horse, & thus earnt the name from this display of his strength.
