In the years before compulsory registration, you need to turn to parish records. This new website that has been launched by The National Archive allows you to search records from 1567 to 1858.

Phillimore has played a huge part in the transcription and printing of marriage register, and by the time he died he had covered over 1200 parishes.

 

Closure at the FRC
The Family Records Centre closes on the 31st October, and plans to move the entire record collection to The National Archives, Kew.
